About Us

This is done automaticlly when we transfer your v5 online. AGain done on the spot when we pick up the vehicle. Or to receive your tax refund, you must inform the DVLA that you have sold your vehicle. You can do this after the vehicle has been collected using the V5C document section 9 (section 4 of new logbooks) which can be filled out on the day of collection by the driver for you to then send to the DVLA. If you don’t have the document, you can still contact the DVLA providing all the details of the collection and explaining that youre no longer the registered keeper. The DVLA will be able to help you from that point to sort out your tax refund.

Our process is very simple and easy to use, therefore so is the method of payment. You can choose between a bank transfer or receiving a cheque. The agreed price will be paid as soon as the collection takes place.

Depending on missing parts such as wheels, we will make special arrangements in advance to ensure we can provide the right type of recovery and any differences in price will be discussed in advance and will be deducted when agreed upon.

If you are unable to be present at the time of collection, this is not an issue. As long as all the paperwork is sorted out prior to the collection, someone else will be able to hand the car over as long as they provide identification and proof of address.

If the car is still able to roll, this shouldn’t be a problem. But just in case, discuss this with us in advance so that we can make any necessary arrangements to ensure a smooth collection.

Our prices are agreed in advance when we first calculate the quote. This price is fixed and guaranteed. We will not deviate from this price unless there is a major issue preventing the collection taking place e.g. misleading us with the value of the vehicle or taking off parts without telling us.

Whoever is present for the collection will need to provide us with their Photo identification and proof of address such as a bank statement or utility bill. The keys of course, and the V5C document whenever possible as it helps to speed up the process. Additionally, we may offer more money if you have spare keys and any important paperwork such as MOTs and service history.

This should not prove to be an issue as we will confirm the identity of the collection driver and their vehicle in advance so you can be sure you’re handing over the vehicle to the right person. If you have any reason to doubt the legitimacy of your collection driver, contact us as soon as possible.

We understand that everyone is very busy so we strive to make this process as easy for you as possible. Therefore we will agree a time window with you in advance during which time one of our drivers will come to collect your car. You will also be provided with notification of our arrival time.

Although you will be using our service to get a quote, it won’t be us personally collecting your car. It will, however, be one of our highly reputable and fully licenced ATF companies within our network who is located closest to you. They will then make the payment to you upon collection. You will also need their details if you need to notify the DVLA of who collected the car.

You will receive email confirmation regarding the action taken with your vehicle as well as a fully itemised price breakdown. You may print this email to keep for your records.

BuyMyCar is a privately owned company based in east London, but our network operates all over the UK. We are very experienced with cars which is what makes us so qualified to give honest, yet competitive quotes. We also take the laws behind recycling cars very seriously so you need not worry about any legal implications as our integrity is part of our customer service.

Since the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, we must legally register a copy or your photo ID and a recent utility bill as proof of address. We know this may prove to be an inconvenience, but we are very careful to do everything by the books to avoid any legal implications.

This won’t prove to be a major problem, but you will need to notify us of this in advance as well as any other potential issues such as height restrictions. If the car is going to be difficult to recover we must prepare ourselves to ensure we can maintain our standards of making it a smooth transition. Therefore by telling us exactly what difficulties we may face with the collection, we can prepare ourselves by sending out an appropriate vehicle for your situation and make any necessary adjustments to the quote as it may take longer to collect the car and may require more resources.

You will need to contact the appropriate governing body in the country your car is registered. They will need to be notified of the fact you are disposing of the vehicle within the UK. They may request registration documents and sometimes even the number plates. As long as you can provide whatever necessary to them, we can come and collect your car.

COD (certificate of destruction) is a certificate that can only be provided by a company that is registered as an ATF (authorised treatment facility). As we only work with reputable ATF companies, you can be certain that you will receive your COD if you have requested it. Although you should bear in mind that if you do not request a COD, the collection company are within their right to repair and sell the vehicle on.

An ATF is an authorised treatment facility. These are licenced sites that have the appropriate authorisation by the correct authorities to properly and legally handle the vehicles and dispose of them responsibly.

You can hand all the paperwork to your recovery driver when they come to collect your vehicle. They will complete the appropriate sections and will hand you back section 9. It will then be your responsibility to send this to the DVLA so they are aware of the vehicle’s status.

After the recovery driver has filled out the necessary sections of the V5C, they will hand you back the part for you to send back to the DVLA. You will then receive a letter back from the DVLA within 4 weeks stating that the details have been updated and that you’re no longer responsible for the vehicle. If you do not have the documentation, you can still write to the DVLA and they can handle it from there.

You can fill out a SORN form online, in the post office or even over the phone. Once the vehicle is classed as SORN, the vehicle must be kept off the roads. The same applies for expired road tax.

You must ensure that the vehicle is clear of any rubbish or personal belongings. This is because the driver may not have the time to wait around for you to clear out the car and may have to charge a call out fee for a wasted journey.

This is a permit from the Environmental Agency. Anybody carrying waste for business must have a licence by law. All our affiliated companies are fully licenced in this sense. Although it should be remembered that the licence only permits the holder to carry waste, not deal with it.

ELV stands for “End of Life Vehicle” as in a vehicle that has reached the end of its life through wear and tear rather than damage. A car would be ELV if it was damaged beyond repair or that it would be uneconomical to repair.

The price will vary depending on the scrap car. As the price is calculated by weight, the heavier the vehicle, the more scrap value it will have thus will be worth more to scrap. Also, vehicle location is a contributing factor as the cost of logistics need to be factored in.

Being the customer, you are our number 1 priority. If you find that you are unhappy with the price quoted, we are more than happy for you to get in touch with us to discuss the vehicle further to see if there is anything we can do to help.

Due to the scrap metal dealers act 2013, our ATFs cannot pay you in cash, but the way in which our system works is that you will receive a bank transfer once the car has been verified and taken for collection. You can also receive a cheque if you would prefer it to a bank transfer.

We are able to collect the vehicle from most locations including garages, storage compounds or even your workplace. As long as the location is agreed in advance, there shouldn’t be any issues.

You need to ensure you have made us aware of the full condition of the car prior to receiving our quote. The quote may vary depending on which parts are missing.

If the stereo is aftermarket, you may remove it. But if the stereo is original and factory fitted, it should not be removed as its value is factored into the quote. If you have any queries about this, please give us a call.

When we provide a scrap value quote, it is determined by vehicle weight rather than condition. The condition doesn’t matter.

We typically can take most vehicles, but you should discuss it with us so we can understand its weight and see if we need to make special arrangements to collect it if its too heavy for a regular recovery.

Scrapping an LPG conversion system safely can take a lot more time and services. Many recycling centres will not accept the vehicle. Depending on the area, it may affect the value of the quote. If you let our team know in advance they can assess the situation accordingly before they arrive so they can make any necessary changes.

We strive to cover all of the UK as we have our network of ATFs spread all over. The only issues that could arise is when we have to collect cars from difficult to access remote locations such as a place with challenging geographical features such as mountains and being far off road. That being said, if you inform us in advance, we will assess the situation to see if there is anything we can do.

Most of the time, vehicles will be broken down into parts and recycled. Almost always, this will be the case if you have requested a COD when getting the quote. Newer cars may be sold on within the motor trade if a COD wasn’t requested. As long as the DVLA is up to date with what is happening, the car won’t be your responsibility.

Unfortunately we cannot release any funds until the vehicle has been collected and assessed to ensure its specifications match that of the quote. We understand the concern this can cause which is why we guarantee every payment.

We wont be making any deductions. Our deal is that the collection is free and included in the quote. There are no deductions for bank transfers and no hidden fees. It is important that you hold up your end of the bargain for this; therefore it is very important that you are honest and accurate describing your car for the quote so that the transaction can run as smoothly as possible.

If your car is local to your home address then you will still be able to use your postcode for the quote. Alternatively you can make the quote with the address of where the car is located as the collection address is what really matters.

In cases like this, you will most likely need to use a recovery company to recover your vehicle immediately. Most of our ATFs don’t specialise in recovery like this as they are only meant to collect vehicles from residential addresses.

This will depend on your local team. As we are nationwide, our teams will vary with their services. Most of the time, your vehicle will be collected Monday to Saturday between 8am and 6pm. Upon completing the quote, our team will be in touch to confirm a time.

Typically we can guarantee the quote for 7 days as in such a short period of time, scrap metal prices can fluctuate significantly changing the value of your vehicle.

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 (SMDA 2013) was introduced October 2013 to replace previous laws. Scrap yards could no longer pay for cars with cash and were required to obtain ID and proof of address as well as images of the vehicle. Police are allowed to enter scrap yards to inspect the premises if needed.

If you are unable to provide photo id at the time of collection, you may ask a family member or friend to present theirs at the time of collection as well as proof of address. If this is not a possibility, the recovery driver may take a photo of you at the time.

Be sure to contact us straight away so we can cancel your booking thus saving the driver time. Accepting a quote from us is contractually binding therefore you need to give us a minimum of 6 hours prior to collection in order to cancel the collection with no additional charges.
